Dear Friends,
I have been a member of SIFE for two years. This past winter I traveled to Vietnam to bring educational coloring books to an orphanage for Christmas. The coloring book was written in both English and Vietnamese and, in addition to teaching the children how to count from 1 to 10 in English, it taught the children how to both grow food and how to sell that food at the market to earn income. The experience was life changing for both the children and myself.
Having spent time in Vietnam, I had the opportunity to see where help was most needed with the youth. The children lacked even the most basic access to technology needed to send an email to family members. While there, I too felt the isolation caused by the lack of connection to the rest of the world. The lack of opportunity to communicate with someone who does not live next door is a dismal situation.
These children deserve the opportunity to access technology in the same way that we seem to take for granted in the United States. By providing this school with XO laptops designed specifically for rural areas and third world nations, you will be forever changing the lives of these developing youth. The opportunities provided by these laptops will go beyond just the children using this equipment. The knowledge that the youth will gain from this technology will be shared with their family, friends, and community.
To ensure that the laptops reach the children and that the children are properly trained in their use, I am planning on accompanying the laptops to Vietnam. There, I will spend a few days teaching the children the fundamental knowledge of operating computers that we in the United States take for granted.
I have seen the need for technology with my own eyes and I believe that these laptops are the best way to fulfill their needs. We ask that you donate $5 to this worthy cause in hope that we can deliver this technology into the hands of children that so desperately need it.
